ASSAM
ASSAM
Originally an extremely limited release of a bergamot-tea-oud fragrance, the original batch of which sold out (all 16 bottles) and become something of an underground sensation. For years this seemed impossible to remake because the oud oil, green peppercorn and tea materials had become unavailable, but we’ve since managed to source a similar oud and juice it with some seriously stinky high-grade stuff to create something that is possibly even better, as well as finding and creating substitutes for the green peppercorn and black tea. There’s a lot going on here but it fuses seamlessly into a smooth woody-musky-peppery bergamot amber-woods accord with hints of black tea. Surprisingly clean for an oud fragrance and also extremely long-lasting for a citrus, especially on cloth, with complex woody qualities throughout. Not your usual rose-oud thing nor your typical barnyard oud, this is an original take on oud that emphasizes its woody, tea-like and ambery qualities and takes advantage of the fixation it provides. Notes include bergamot, soapy aldehydes, black tea, saffron, green peppercorn, cabreuva, cypriol, patchouli, amber, vetiver Haiti, oud Assam, sandalwood, white musks.
Available only as 50ml EDP.
9/2024 In order to avoid stressing people out and to make things more orderly and fair, 16 of the final bottles will be released by lottery later this month. Everyone on the mailing list to receive instructions to enter; winners will receive an invoice to purchase one bottle.
4/2024 Our attempts to find substitutes for the original attars have proven expensive and futile. Sixteen bottles of this batch are now bottled and resting for release in the fall. The plan now is to make the rest available as samples with another release in fall 2025 if there’s any left by then.
1/2024 Unfortunately our supplier for the two attars used in Assam (as well as the original oud oil) has gone out of business and so far we haven’t been able to source similar attars from other suppliers. After the current inventory (8 bottles currently) runs out, we’ll probably release the remainder of this batch as a limited edition unless we can find a decent source for substitutes.
9/2023 the new batch is excellent, possibly the best one yet.
5/2023 There’s a new batch, now available as samples, with a new high-grade Cambodian oud oil along with the Assam, toned-down saffron, more castoreum, and a stronger black tea impression, especially in the opening.
